Have you ever been in a long distance relationship?

Im in a long distance relationship, and he is older then me. I was wanting to know should we consider relocation to one another? if so which one of us? While im about to start college and about to turn 19, hes a computer tech (self taught) and not interested in going to college, and making better for himself and possibly the family we want to have one day. I want to make better for myself and want to provide him and myself a better life.
