How do you legally leave with 2 kids from unsafe husband.?
yes, she can leave without reprecussions and some areas she can change the locks of the residence to keep an abuser out. when your sister goes for the restraining order to be finalized (usually a week after an initial protective order is signed), it would be best for your mom to be present to testify to the injury (in MD, because we have jacka$$ conditions, they would probably allow a final RO to protect mom because of an injury, but not your sis unless she has recordings/written proof of threats). if she feel unsafe and doesn't want to move to your place/parents/etc. she can request emergency safe house. options in such a rush until she can get legal help: contact free court legal aid, league of women voters, or corps like catholic charites, etc (they can assist regardless of religion, income, etc). an almost mandatory for her benefits in appearing in court is to keep a journal/diary of anything (i can email you a sample to give you an idea of how nit picky detailed we had to get for our help)...it's much better to appear with dates, times, details etc. instead of "one time he yelled at me" "one night after drinking..." the courts accept more seriously "on june 24th at 8 pm after drinking whiskey, he began yelling obsenities and threatening to hit me"
