Anyone have an iguana in NYC?

I am moving to NYC and I have an iguana that I'm taking with me. I just found out that apparently they are illegal there. Does anyone live in NY with an iguana already and may be able to give me some advice? Do you think I could manage without getting caught? Is it really strict there or is it more like you only get in trouble if you receive a complaint? Is there some kind of permit you can get if you already owned one prior to relocation? I don't want to give up my iggy :(
